I can rarely sit motionless:
Toes wiggle
Feet bounce
Knees jig
Wrists flex
Arms twitch
Shoulders shrug, re-settle
Neck stretches this way then that
Eyebrows arch, frown.
Inside I’m the same:
Stillness is rare
Takes concentration
Energy.
Thoughts bounce
Doubts rise and fall
Memories rear up
Regrets whisper
Hopes sing softly
To do lists grow
Shoulds shout.
Where does peace fit
In all this motion?
External
Internal
Relational
Spiritual
My spirit longs for quiet
For rest –
Refreshing, peaceful, silent, rest.
To BE
Not DO
To soak
Not swim
To rest
Not strive.
Just to BE.
Only in the calm
That is Him
Can I let all agitation go.
Help me BE still
With You.
