SunRise

I walked through the dark, the narrow path gleaming slightly in the light of a distant lamp. Soon I was past the lamp’s touch, walking along sand beside the sea toward my favourite chair-shaped palm trunk.

I lowered myself onto the trunk and leaned back, then looked out toward the sea.

Black. Nothing.

As I stared I almost thought I saw a pale line as small waves washed ashore. The tide was low, the soft susurration of the waves just above a whisper. The palm leaves above me tossed in the light pre-dawn breeze, their gentle chatter louder than the waves.

Slowly a vague light from the east made visible the clouds along the horizon, puffy and dark grey. Bit by bit as I watched, the light grew behind them and they gained depth and dimension.

The light spread along the edge of the world. Colour seeped into the grey, pastel and gentle as the waves.

Clouds in front of me gained a tinge of pink on their edges, subtly backlit, all their puffy lumps and bumps slowly becoming visible.

The light grew.

Pink, coral, orange spread along the horizon.

A brighter spot took shape to my left showing where east truly sat. It grew, ramping up its amperage bit by bit. The gold became a fiercer, hotter yellow, spraying brighter light, more saturated colours across the sea- and cloud-scape.

Pale blue now oozed across the sky that had been grey and dark. Above me the dark grey became midnight blue, purple tinged, then, as I looked lower, toward the sea the midnight blue became navy blue then royal blue then dark blue then …

Suddenly, all in a moment, and yet ever so slowly, the sun’s edge pierced the waiting world and a flash of dazzling white shot out. The rest of the sun followed, now so bright it blinded.

I looked to the right, watched a blaze of colour paint the bottom of the clouds – rejoicing at the new dawn.

A waiting cloud moved across the rising sun, shrouding its brilliance. Rays leaked past it in beams visible against the darker backdrop.

The sun has risen. New every morning. Glory on glory.

The Son has risen indeed, His glory flashed across the universe, giving colour and life to all, then shrouded as He awaits His final revelation.

I love the various colours of life. They bring such vibrancy and joy. I have found that God is the Source of all the colours that make life worth living.
